Cheese Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average cheese export price amounted to $5,236 per ton, growing by 2.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,608 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($6,511 per ton) and Singapore ($6,173 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($4,667 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($4,677 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average cheese import price stood at $6,064 per ton in July 2023, approximately equating the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.2% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,599 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($13,711 per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($4,655 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Exports in Australia
Cheese exports from Australia contracted to 146K tons in 2022, which is down by -8.6% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.5%.
In value terms, cheese exports totaled $709M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.4%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
