Cheese Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022
The average cheese import price stood at $3,658 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,617 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($7,689 per ton), while the price for Greece ($882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Price in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average cheese export price amounted to $2,199 per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,202 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($14,409 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($816 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+28.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Imports in Uganda
Cheese imports into Uganda fell to 240 tons in 2022, with a decrease of -14% against the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 279 tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, cheese imports reduced dramatically to $876K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1M, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Cheese Exports in Uganda
In 2022, overseas shipments of cheese decreased by -6.8% to 15 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 17 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cheese exports fell to $32K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $35K, and then dropped in the following year.
