Chewing Gum Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average chewing gum export price amounted to $13,470 per ton, rising by 9.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, chewing gum export price increased by +105.3% against November 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 29% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($25,990 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($3,169 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chewing Gum Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
The average chewing gum import price stood at $5,520 per ton in June 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $8,659 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($12,467 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($2,855 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chewing Gum Exports in Hungary
For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in shipments abroad of chewing gum, which increased by 9% to 1.1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, chewing gum exports skyrocketed to $9.8M in 2022. In general, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Chewing Gum Imports in Hungary
In 2022, supplies from abroad of chewing gum decreased by -8% to 462 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 502 tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, chewing gum imports expanded slightly to $2.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
