Chicken Egg Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
The average chicken egg export price stood at $3,513 per ton in 2022, growing by 53% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chicken egg export price increased by +145.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 60% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($3,474 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan stood at $3,136 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+43.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average chicken egg import price stood at $4,271 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 42% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $4,715 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Taiwan (Chinese).
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Ukraine amounted to +30.2% per year.

For the third consecutive year, Sri Lanka recorded decline in shipments abroad of chicken eggs, which decreased by -57.8% to 121 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a sharp shrinkage. The smallest decline of -54.3% was in 2021.
In value terms, chicken egg exports contracted rapidly to $426K in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a significant decline. The smallest decline of -26.7% was in 2021.
