Chipped Non-Coniferous Wood Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average chipped non-coniferous wood export price amounted to $47.8 per cubic meter, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 19% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $64.6 per cubic meter. From June 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($55.5 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($28.4 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average chipped non-coniferous wood import price stood at $69.1 per cubic meter in September 2023, with a decrease of -65.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 197% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $200 per cubic meter, and then declined rapidly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($79.2 per cubic meter), while the price for Estonia stood at $41.4 per cubic meter.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.5%).
Chipped Non-Coniferous Wood Exports in Latvia
In 2022, shipments abroad of non-coniferous wood in chips or particles was finally on the rise to reach 1.3M cubic meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chipped non-coniferous wood exports soared to $38M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, purchases abroad of non-coniferous wood in chips or particles decreased by -32.3% to 93K cubic meters, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 290K cubic meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chipped non-coniferous wood imports skyrocketed to $3.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. Imports peaked at $5.7M in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
