In August 2023, the average chlorides; of aluminium export price amounted to $388 per ton, with a decrease of -16.2% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, chlorides; of aluminium export price decreased by -16.2% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 22% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $495 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($325 per ton), while the average price for exports to Liechtenstein totaled $224 per ton.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, chlorides; of aluminium import price increased by +4.0% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $394 per ton in June 2023, and then dropped in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($427 per ton), while the price for Hungary totaled $224 per ton.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.0%).

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of chlorides; of aluminia decreased by -4.1% to 32K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 8.9%.

In value terms, chlorides; of aluminium exports surged to $9.5M in 2022. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 70% against the previous year.
