Chocolate Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
The average chocolate import price stood at $4,554 per ton in September 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The import price peaked in September 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($5,855 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($3,078 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2023
The average chocolate export price stood at $5,068 per ton in September 2023, falling by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,681 per ton in August 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Estonia ($5,686 per ton) and Sweden ($5,652 per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($4,782 per ton) and Belarus ($5,136 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Imports in Lithuania
In 2022, purchases abroad of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa decreased by -10.6% to 12K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chocolate imports contracted to $38M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17%.

Chocolate Exports in Lithuania
In 2022, overseas shipments of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa decreased by -9.3% to 721 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 853 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chocolate exports contracted slightly to $3.2M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 1%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.3M, and then shrank in the following year.
