Chocolate Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022
The average chocolate import price stood at $8,053 per ton in December 2022, growing by 8.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in December 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($11,604 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($2,661 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Price in South Korea (FOB) - 2022
In December 2022, the average chocolate export price amounted to $2,037 per ton, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 17% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,220 per ton in December 2021; however, from January 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($8,746 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan totaled $1,242 per ton.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (-0.6%).
Chocolate Imports in South Korea
In 2022, the amount of chocolate and cocoa products imported into South Korea fell to 75K tons, reducing by -12.2% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 85K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, chocolate imports contracted to $418M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $460M, and then declined in the following year.
