Chocolate Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average chocolate export price stood at $3,444 per ton in June 2023, picking up by 2.7% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,453 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,653 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($2,909 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
The average chocolate import price stood at $3,496 per ton in June 2023, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 26% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,636 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,529 per ton), while the price for Poland ($759 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chocolate Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa, when their volume decreased by -1.5% to 81K tons. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +51.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 82K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, chocolate exports fell to $229M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $246M, and then dropped in the following year.
