Clay Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022
The average clay export price stood at $388 per ton in 2022, growing by 7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Nigeria ($441 per ton) and Germany ($430 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zimbabwe ($296 per ton) and Thailand ($321 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Clay Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average clay import price amounted to $130 per ton, dropping by -41.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 6.4%. The import price peaked at $337 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($627 per ton), while the price for India ($34 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Clay Exports in South Africa
In 2022, shipments abroad of clays was finally on the rise to reach 146K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced slump.
