Cocoa Bean Price in the Philippines (FOB) - 2023
The average cocoa bean export price stood at $3,011 per ton in June 2023, falling by -8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 22% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,383 per ton. From August 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,908 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia totaled $2,806 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cocoa Bean Price in the Philippines (CIF) - 2022
The average cocoa bean import price stood at $2,741 per ton in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a modest increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 23%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,217 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Ecuador ($2,835 per ton) and Madagascar ($2,757 per ton), while the price for Papua New Guinea ($2,611 per ton) and Indonesia ($2,715 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Bean Exports in the Philippines
In 2022, shipments abroad of cocoa beans decreased by -37.2% to 2.8K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 69%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cocoa bean exports shrank remarkably to $7.9M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 74%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $14M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Cocoa bean imports into the Philippines soared to 641 tons in 2022, jumping by 42% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 210%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cocoa bean imports surged to $1.8M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 197%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
