Cocoa Bean Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average cocoa bean import price amounted to $2,566 per ton, surging by 3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 7.6% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,616 per ton in January 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Democratic Republic of the Congo ($2,647 per ton) and Cote d'Ivoire ($2,593 per ton), while the price for Cameroon ($2,413 per ton) and Ghana ($2,481 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uganda (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Bean Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average cocoa bean export price amounted to $2,953 per ton, with a decrease of -11.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 32%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,736 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($2,925 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ethiopia amounted to $2,647 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iran (+0.4%).
Cocoa Bean Imports in Turkey
In 2022, supplies from abroad of cocoa beans decreased by -30.4% to 87K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 137K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cocoa bean imports shrank notably to $209M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $341M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of cocoa beans decreased by -70.9% to 561 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a precipitous decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 199% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cocoa bean exports fell notably to $1.7M in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 240% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $13M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
