Cocoa Butter Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022
The average cocoa butter import price stood at $6,387 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10,052 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($10,456 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($3,704 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+17.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cocoa Butter Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average cocoa butter export price stood at $7,096 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -35.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 76%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $11,030 per ton, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($9,904 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($582 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Somalia (+68.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cocoa Butter Imports in Kenya
In 2022, purchases abroad of cocoa butter decreased by -0.5% to 69 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +79.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 78% against the previous year.
In value terms, cocoa butter imports rose rapidly to $443K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -4.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 66%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $465K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
