Coconut Oil Price in Costa Rica (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average coconut oil import price amounted to $5,043 per ton, reducing by -3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 32%. The import price peaked at $5,576 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($10,983 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,554 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Coconut Oil Price in Costa Rica (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average coconut oil export price amounted to $6,008 per ton, increasing by 8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 206% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $6,491 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Nicaragua.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Nicaragua amounted to +21.0% per year.
Coconut Oil Imports in Costa Rica
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of coconut (copra) oil, when their volume decreased by -0.4% to 73 tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 78%.
In value terms, coconut oil imports fell slightly to $370K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 69%.
