The average coffee substitutes import price stood at $27,153 per ton in May 2023, with an increase of 342% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($32,310 per ton), while the price for Romania ($8,333 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Coffee Substitutes Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
In May 2023, the average coffee substitutes export price amounted to $8,487 per ton, waning by -15.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 204% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $11,967 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to May 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($12,031 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($2,968 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Coffee Substitutes Imports in Bulgaria
In 2022, purchases abroad of coffee substitutes containing coffee was finally on the rise to reach 122 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, coffee substitutes imports expanded to $1.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.4M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
