Commercial Refrigeration Equipment Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average commercial refrigeration equipment import price stood at $201 per unit in September 2023, waning by -35.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $440 per unit in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,563 per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($37.5 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+45.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average commercial refrigeration equipment export price stood at $628 per unit in 2022, surging by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 90%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($2,282 per unit), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($245 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+26.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Commercial Refrigeration Equipment Imports in the United States
In 2022, overseas purchases of refrigerating and freezing equipment and heat pumps (except household type equipment) decreased by -14% to 14M units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 17M units, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, commercial refrigeration equipment imports dropped to $3.6B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.6B, leveling off in the following year.

Overall, exports, however, faced a dramatic decline. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 6.8M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, commercial refrigeration equipment exports stood at $1.9B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
