Common Clay Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
The average common clay export price stood at $150 per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $226 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Philippines ($177 per ton) and Malaysia ($177 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($130 per ton) and China ($132 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Common Clay Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average common clay import price amounted to $363 per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $375 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($533 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($85 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Common Clay Exports in Thailand
For the fourth consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in shipments abroad of common clay, which increased by 8% to 107K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, common clay exports expanded notably to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 42%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Common Clay Imports in Thailand
In 2022, overseas purchases of common clay decreased by -40.1% to 25K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 20%.
In value terms, common clay imports fell markedly to $9.1M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31% against the previous year.
