The average copper; master alloys import price stood at $11,118 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $11,441 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Belgium ($12,721 per ton) and South Korea ($12,075 per ton), while the price for China ($10,829 per ton) and Brazil ($10,834 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Copper; Master Alloys Imports in Argentina
In 2022, supplies from abroad of copper; master alloyses decreased by -3.4% to 49 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 50 tons, and then declined slightly in the following year.
In value terms, copper; master alloys imports reduced slightly to $541K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 143%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $548K, and then reduced in the following year.
