Copper Wire Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022

The average copper wire import price stood at $8,317 per ton in December 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 6.4% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $10,791 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($9,548 per ton) and Malaysia ($8,898 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($8,136 per ton) and Thailand ($8,281 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Copper Wire Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022

In December 2022, the average copper wire export price amounted to $9,717 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 3% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $9,869 per ton. From November 2022 to December 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were the Netherlands ($11,161 per ton) and South Korea ($10,216 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($9,380 per ton) and the Philippines ($9,386 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Copper Wire Imports in Vietnam

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of copper wires decreased by -6.8% to 79K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 85K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, copper wire imports contracted notably to $649M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +36.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 63%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $805M, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of copper wires, when their volume decreased by -5.5% to 34K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 152% against the previous year.

In value terms, copper wire exports dropped to $225M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 135%.
