Crane Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average crane import price stood at $227K per unit in August 2023, waning by -11.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, crane import price decreased by -17.5% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 59% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $276K per unit. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($515K per unit), while the price for China ($79,118 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crane Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average crane export price amounted to $13,979 per unit, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 32%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $18,277 per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($43,108 per unit), while the average price for exports to Finland ($3,744 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crane Imports in the UK
In 2022, imports of derricks, cranes, mobile lifting frames, straddle carriers and work trucks fitted with a crane into the UK rose sharply to 28K units, picking up by 13% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated notable growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, crane imports surged to $504M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
