Crude Oil Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022
The average crude oil import price stood at $685 per ton in March 2022, growing by 7.4% against the previous month. Over the period from March 2021 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 12% m-o-m. The import price peaked in March 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($761 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($693 per ton), while the price for Equatorial Guinea ($672 per ton) and Nigeria ($673 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Oil Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022
The average crude oil export price stood at $742 per ton in March 2022, rising by 11% against the previous month. Over the period from March 2021 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 18% m-o-m. The export price peaked in March 2022.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Thailand.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Thailand amounted to +3.8% per month.
Crude Oil Imports in Indonesia
In 2022, approx. 12M tons of crude petroleum oil were imported into Indonesia; reducing by -13.7% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 14M tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, crude oil imports surged to $8.6B in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Crude Oil Exports in Indonesia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of crude petroleum oil, when their volume decreased by -80% to 1.2M tons. Over the period under review, exports showed a dramatic decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6M tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, crude oil exports contracted dramatically to $845M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.8B, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
