Dairy Spread Price in Finland (CIF) - 2023
In April 2023, the average dairy spread import price amounted to $3,357 per ton, dropping by -19.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 34% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $5,061 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to April 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($5,097 per ton), while the price for Germany stood at $2,121 per ton.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Dairy Spread Price in Finland (FOB) - 2023
The average dairy spread export price stood at $6,957 per ton in May 2023, shrinking by -3.1% against the previous month. Over the period from May 2022 to May 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,859 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to May 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In May 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Turkmenistan ($7,042 per ton) and Uzbekistan ($7,030 per ton), while the average price for exports to Armenia ($6,765 per ton) and Georgia ($7,027 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dairy Spread Imports in Finland
In 2022, overseas purchases of dairy spreads decreased by -6.5% to 369 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year.
In value terms, dairy spread imports fell to $1.4M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.5M, and then reduced in the following year.
