The average date import price stood at $1,744 per ton in July 2023, falling by -31.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,241 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,405 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($1,138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average date export price amounted to $6,814 per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 81% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($17,720 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($931 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+71.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of dates decreased by -17.4% to 6.3K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a mild slump. In 2022, shipments abroad of dates decreased by -20.1% to 41 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 47%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 52 tons, and then dropped notably in the following year.
In value terms, date exports declined to $282K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 151% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $320K, and then reduced in the following year.
