Date Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
The average date import price stood at $2,790 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -31.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated mild growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, date import price increased by +26.4% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 85% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,081 per ton, and then shrank sharply in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Iran ($6,583 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($378 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average date export price amounted to $2,704 per ton, rising by 9.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $4,312 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($3,468 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,039 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Imports in Lithuania
In 2022, overseas purchases of dates decreased by -11.2% to 889 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, date imports reduced to $2.1M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
