Derivatives of Hydrocarbons Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
The average derivatives of hydrocarbons import price stood at $1,819 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,507 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Malaysia amounted to +25.5% per year.

In 2022, the average derivatives of hydrocarbons export price amounted to $2,825 per ton, surging by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($2,936 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,802 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+19.8%).
Derivatives of Hydrocarbons Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, imports of derivatives of hydrocarbons other than containing only sulpho-, nitro-, or nitroso groups into Sri Lanka declined to 39 tons, waning by -13.2% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 338% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 45 tons, and then reduced in the following year.
