Dried Onion Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average dried onion import price amounted to $4,101 per ton, growing by 89% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($5,811 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,879 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2022
The average dried onion export price stood at $2,678 per ton in 2022, dropping by -4.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,813 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Estonia ($3,052 per ton) and the Czech Republic ($2,918 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($2,605 per ton) and Poland ($2,614 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dried Onion Imports in Latvia
Dried onion imports into Latvia reduced to 536 tons in 2022, with a decrease of -6.3% on the year before. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last three years.
