Dry Bean Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average dry bean import price stood at $1,066 per ton in July 2023, surging by 3.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 14% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($1,516 per ton), while the price for Afghanistan ($805 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Djibouti (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dry Bean Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average dry bean export price amounted to $1,102 per ton, increasing by 3.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 43% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,224 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,518 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($830 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Dry Bean Imports in India
In 2022, imports of beans (dry) into India fell significantly to 781K tons, with a decrease of -16% against the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 930K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, dry bean imports shrank remarkably to $722M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 86%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $882M, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Dry Bean Exports in India
In 2022, shipments abroad of beans (dry) decreased by -38.1% to 69K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 123%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 111K tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, dry bean exports fell dramatically to $74M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 86%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $110M, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
