Eggplant Price in Uganda (FOB) - 2022
The average eggplant export price stood at $3,011 per ton in 2022, dropping by -10.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,349 per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($4,704 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($1,314 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average eggplant import price stood at $1,417 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 4.2%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Egypt.

Eggplant Exports in Uganda
Eggplant exports from Uganda totaled 908 tons in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the year before. Eggplant Imports in Uganda
In 2022, purchases abroad of eggplants (aubergines) decreased by -11.1% to 48 kg, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 3.4%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 61 kg. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, eggplant imports reduced to $68 in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 7.7%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $84.
