Fig Price in Uganda (CIF) - 2022
The average fig import price stood at $1,628 per ton in 2022, declining by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,662 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($2,100 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($1,526 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average fig export price stood at $3,978 per ton in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 96%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,750 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Sudan.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Sudan amounted to +5.8% per year.
Fig Imports in Uganda
In 2022, imports of figs into Uganda surged to 1.2 tons, increasing by 19% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.4 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fig imports rose remarkably to $2K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -10.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.2K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
