The average flakes; of potatoes import price stood at $2,095 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 19% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,285 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Argentina ($2,841 per ton) and Belgium ($2,388 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,940 per ton) and Russia ($1,969 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average flakes; of potatoes export price stood at $1,351 per ton in 2022, surging by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $5,005 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,675 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,288 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+46.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
