In August 2023, the average flakes; of potatoes export price amounted to $2,092 per ton, dropping by -2.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a tangible increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, flakes; of potatoes export price decreased by -3.5% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,168 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,832 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,464 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average flakes; of potatoes import price stood at $1,277 per ton in August 2023, waning by -11.2% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a temperate expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, flakes; of potatoes import price decreased by -14.0% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,484 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($2,266 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,088 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 179K tons of flakes; of potatoeses were exported from Germany; picking up by 6.7% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 20%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, flakes; of potatoes exports expanded notably to $253M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 9.3%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
