In September 2023, the average flakes; of potatoes import price amounted to $2,023 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $2,233 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,139 per ton), while the price for Russia amounted to $1,685 per ton.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average flakes; of potatoes export price stood at $2,456 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 13%. The export price peaked at $2,921 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($3,129 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($2,228 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of flakes; of potatoeses was finally on the rise to reach 1.2K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
