Flax Yarn Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average flax yarn import price amounted to $15,948 per ton, which is down by -10.3% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a strong expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, flax yarn import price increased by +19.6% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 140% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $17,773 per ton in June 2023, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($60,727 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($3,646 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average flax yarn export price amounted to $13,310 per ton, falling by -30% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 57% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $29,405 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($32,678 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($5,431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Flax Yarn Imports in Germany

In 2022, overseas purchases of flax yarns decreased by -3% to 748 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 771 tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, flax yarn imports skyrocketed to $9M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
