Flax Yarn Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023

The average flax yarn import price stood at $16,920 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -9.8% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 32% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $18,765 per ton, and then declined in the following month.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +1.5% per month.

Flax Yarn Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average flax yarn export price amounted to $38,398 per ton, which is down by -16.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 63%. The export price peaked at $46,077 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($64,758 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($24,724 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Flax Yarn Imports in Japan

In 2022, the amount of flax yarns imported into Japan rose notably to 903 tons, surging by 10% on the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year.
