In July 2023, the average flax yarn import price amounted to $16,076 per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($21,270 per ton), while the price for Spain ($9,910 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($17,550 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of flax yarns imported into Portugal dropped slightly to 4.8K tons, stabilizing at the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the last three years. In value terms, flax yarn exports skyrocketed to $4.8M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a significant increase.
