Frozen Chicken Cut Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average frozen chicken cut import price amounted to $3,265 per ton, surging by 1.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 4.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,855 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($4,382 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($2,838 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Frozen Chicken Cut Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average frozen chicken cut export price stood at $1,848 per ton in August 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 4.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $2,055 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($2,390 per ton), while the average price for exports to Afghanistan ($1,440 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cambodia (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Frozen Chicken Cut Imports in China
In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen cuts of chicken decreased by -11.3% to 1.3M tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 95%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.5M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen chicken cut imports skyrocketed to $4.1B in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +27.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +108.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
