Frozen Crustaceans Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average frozen crustaceans import price amounted to $7,691 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 5.9% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $9,098 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($13,162 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($2,236 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Crustaceans Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average frozen crustaceans export price amounted to $9,516 per ton, declining by -5.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $10,310 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($16,287 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($4,127 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Crustaceans Imports in the Netherlands
For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in supplies from abroad of frozen crustaceans, which increased by 14% to 79K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, frozen crustaceans imports amounted to $705M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +80.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 16%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 59K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, frozen crustaceans exports shrank to $517M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $552M, and then fell in the following year.
