Frozen Freshwater Fish Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average frozen freshwater fish import price amounted to $2,805 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, import price indicated temperate growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, frozen freshwater fish import price decreased by -19.2% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 63% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,864 per ton. From April 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($7,318 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($1,362 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Freshwater Fish Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average frozen freshwater fish export price amounted to $1,789 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 57%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,238 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,596 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($975 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+28.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Freshwater Fish Imports in Latvia
In 2022, purchases abroad of frozen freshwater fish increased by 49% to 1.6K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, frozen freshwater fish imports surged to $3.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild descent.
