Fructose Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average fructose export price amounted to $759 per ton, waning by -10.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 75% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $873 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($661 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to $622 per ton.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average fructose import price amounted to $1,984 per ton, falling by -1.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 79% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,360 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,456 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,704 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Exports in Hungary
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of fructose and fructose syrup, when their volume decreased by -14.4% to 156K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 182K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, fructose exports amounted to $62M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
