Fructose Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average fructose import price amounted to $1,653 per ton, shrinking by -6.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from August 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, fructose import price decreased by -6.9% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 28% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,776 per ton in June 2023, and then shrank in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,275 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($1,455 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+7.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average fructose export price stood at $2,850 per ton in July 2023, increasing by 3.6% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 24% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,853 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Algeria ($5,564 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($1,680 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fructose Imports in Italy
Fructose imports into Italy rose modestly to 61K tons in 2022, with an increase of 1.7% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fructose imports surged to $78M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
