Fruit and Berry Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average fruit and berry import price amounted to $1,139 per ton, declining by -12.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,530 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($1,833 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($587 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fruit and Berry Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average fruit and berry export price amounted to $1,265 per ton, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,436 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($4,089 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($791 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Fruit and Berry Imports in Belgium
In 2022, supplies from abroad of fruits and berries decreased by -7.7% to 2M tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 125% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.3M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fruit and berry imports shrank dramatically to $2.3B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -20.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 101%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.9B. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
