Fruit and Berry Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022
The average fruit and berry import price stood at $1,735 per ton in 2022, rising by 8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($3,050 per ton), while the price for Honduras ($750 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average fruit and berry export price amounted to $2,179 per ton, growing by 9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($7,212 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($405 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Fruit and Berry Imports in Canada
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of fruits and berries decreased by -4.3% to 2.6M tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 2.4%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.7M tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, fruit and berry imports rose to $4.4B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 11%. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fruit and berry exports skyrocketed to $364M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
