Garlic Price in Kuwait (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average garlic import price amounted to $1,545 per ton, rising by 3.9% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2021 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,609 per ton. From August 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +2.2% per month.
Garlic Price in Kuwait (FOB) - 2022
The average garlic export price stood at $927 per ton in 2022, rising by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,004 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Lebanon ($1,025 per ton) and Iraq ($904 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($759 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($885 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Garlic Imports in Kuwait
Garlic imports into Kuwait skyrocketed to 13K tons in 2022, rising by 24% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 15K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, garlic imports rose sharply to $17M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $19M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
