Garlic Price in Paraguay (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average garlic import price amounted to $1,635 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured expansion from October 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, garlic import price increased by +75.8% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in September 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($1,685 per ton), while the price for Argentina stood at $535 per ton.
From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.9%).
Garlic Imports in Paraguay
In 2022, purchases abroad of garlic decreased by -19.8% to 5.6K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -25.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 7.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, garlic imports contracted significantly to $6.1M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $7.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
