Ghee Price in India (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average ghee export price amounted to $8,564 per ton, with an increase of 6.6% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($14,721 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($7,011 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ghee Price in India (CIF) - 2022
The average ghee import price stood at $7,096 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,273 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($8,490 per ton), while the price for Nepal ($3,613 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ghee Exports in India
In 2022, approx. 18K tons of ghee were exported from India; with an increase of 29% compared with 2021. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ghee exports surged to $120M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of ghee increased by 576% to 142 tons in 2022. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
