Ginger Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2022
The average ginger import price stood at $1,540 per ton in 2022, dropping by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 25%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,651 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($2,739 per ton), while the price for China ($1,377 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2022
The average ginger export price stood at $9,333 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ginger export price increased by +134.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($19,346 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3,098 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Georgia (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Imports in Ukraine
In 2022, purchases abroad of ginger decreased by -48.9% to 1.5K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ginger imports declined rapidly to $2.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $5.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Ginger Exports in Ukraine
In 2022, overseas shipments of ginger decreased by -76.3% to 3.2 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 76%.
In value terms, ginger exports contracted remarkably to $29K in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 165% against the previous year.
