Glucose Price in Ireland (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average glucose import price amounted to $737 per ton, jumping by 43% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,021 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,218 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($541 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glucose Price in Ireland (FOB) - 2023
The average glucose export price stood at $2,151 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -39.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 177% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $6,130 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,578 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,366 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glucose Imports in Ireland
In 2022, purchases abroad of glucose and glucose syrup decreased by -18.2% to 42K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 52K tons, and then plummeted in the following year.
In value terms, glucose imports surged to $31M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 43%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
