In 2022, the average goats; live import price amounted to $281 per unit, falling by -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 120% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $440 per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($288 per unit), while the price for Australia amounted to $220 per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+16.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of goats; lives, when their volume decreased by -13.7% to 6.6K units. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 167%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 7.6K units in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, goats; live imports shrank sharply to $1.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 111% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $2.4M in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
