Hardboard Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average hardboard export price amounted to $445 per cubic meter, dropping by -10.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2021 when the average export price increased by 26% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $516 per cubic meter in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($641 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($216 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Hardboard Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average hardboard import price amounted to $277 per cubic meter, reducing by -25.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2021 an increase of 122% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $400 per cubic meter in August 2021; however, from September 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($397 per cubic meter), while the price for Thailand ($139 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Hardboard Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 51K cubic meters of hardboard were exported from Malaysia; waning by -13.3% compared with the year before. Overall, exports saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 58K cubic meters, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, hardboard exports declined to $25M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $30M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Hardboard Imports in Malaysia
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of hardboard decreased by -5.2% to 24K cubic meters in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 62%. Imports peaked at 26K cubic meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, hardboard imports contracted to $10M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 51%. Imports peaked at $11M in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
