In 2022, the average herbicide import price amounted to $6,474 per ton, rising by 20% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. The average herbicide export price stood at $2,725 per ton in June 2023, with a decrease of -6.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 264% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $20,071 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($79,193 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico totaled $2,333 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Herbicide Imports in Canada
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of herbicides decreased by -46% to 184K tons in 2022. Overall, imports faced a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11%.
